Homemade Face and Body Scrub
It's easy to make a homemade facial scrub if you have the time. Most of the ingredients can be found right in your kitchen. Granulated sugar, oatmeal, ground coffee beans and salt can all be used to exfoliate dry, flaky skin. Use organic ingredients whenever you can.
Dry Skin: Exfoliate once a week if your skin is dry. You want your complexion to look healthy not red and irritated. Your skin will tell you if you are over exfoliating so adjust to what your skin can tolerate.
Oily Skin: Exfoliate twice a week if your skin is oily. Pores can get clogged with dead skin cells, oil and grime. Trial and error will dictate as to how often is best for your skin.
A homemade facial scrub will last a few days in your refrigerator. It's important to make a fresh batch weekly for best results. Experiment with different exfoliates like sugar, coffee grounds or oatmeal. One may work better than another on your skin type.

Peppermint Sugar Scrub
This is a refreshing mint scrub great for holiday time or any time!
* 1 cup organic sugar
* 1/2 cup organic olive oil
* 3-4 drops peppermint essential oil (more if you want a stronger scent)
* 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
* 1-2 teaspoons raspberry juice (thaw 1/4 cup frozen raspberries nad use the juice)
Mix together and place in 4 oz. fruit jars for a pretty and wonderful smelling scrub.
Honey Citrus Scrub
*1/2 tsp honey
*1/8 C light olive oil
*1/2 C sugar
*1 tsp citrus zest (from lemon or orange)
Mix all ingredients and massage gently in a circular motion for one minute and rinse with warm water. Honey is a great humectant (draws moisture into the skin), sugar gently buffs away dead skin cells, olive oil moisturizes and the citrus adds an invigorating scent. Store in the refrigerator.
Oatmeal & Brown Sugar Scrub
2 T. ground oatmeal
2 tsp. brown sugar
2 T. aloe vera
1 tsp. lemon juice
Oatmeal gently exfoliates and soothes the skin. Brown sugar also removes dry, dead skin cells as well as lemon, which is rich in fruit acids. Aloe vera calms the skin.
Mix and apply to damp face. Gently massage in a circular motion for 1 minute. Rinse with warm water. Triple this recipe to make a gentle body scrub. Store in the refrigerator. After exfoliating, be sure to apply an organic facial moisturizer.
Pumpkin Pie Sugar Scrub
* 1 C granulated sugar
* 1/4 C olive oil
* 1/4 C canned pumpkin
* 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
* 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
* 1/8 tsp ground cloves
Mix together and apply to damp clean skin. Massage gently in a circular motion for about 1 minute and rinse with warm water. The sugar gently exfoliates your skin while the olive oil moisturizes. It smells just like pumpkin pie! Use this homemade facial scrub for your face and body. It is also gluten free. Use organic ingredients whenever you can. Store any leftover scrub in the refrigerator.
